Six Aspirin

According to the bottle
'Don't take any more than 8'
It suggests a dose of 2
But I need more to meet my fate

The safety cap can't stop me
With tears running down my face
My vision and mind a blur
My beating heart no saving grace

With twenty capsules in hand
I feel my courage waver
But when hatred fills my ears again
Suicide is my savior

Round white pills look so harmless
Yet they have amazing power
Can't a bottle cure this plague called life
If 2 cure pain in an hour?

Two down, the required dose
Two more, that makes four
Six now, am I dying yet?
No, silly...you need more

I need more...I need more
But what if I don't die
I'll just end up at the hospital
And I'll have to explain why

The screaming has subsided
Nothing feeds my deadly quest
I've stopped at only 6
I'll get sick or dizzy, at best

Still, I resume my crying
I just don't understand
Why couldn't I go through with it?
I had the weapon in my hand

Someone's pounding on the door
I unlock it in a daze
They're still fuming, mad at me
My world's a crimson haze

I take the half-full bottle
And before I put it in my drawer
I read the label carefully
'Expires February '04'.
